Settle down
THE BIG IDEA
For anyone that is emotionally, psychically, or energetically drained by jew on jew hate – either in the holy land or the world at large – allow this week’s torah energy to urge you to take responsibility for your participation in it, and inspire positive personal change.
While it’s pretty clear to see how jealousy drove the tribal bros to desire the death of their little brother – it is important to note that, according to Rashi, Joseph’s tattle tale efforts had their own karmic consequences. Meaning – no side in family fracture is completely innocent.
This week take some time to look deep within yourself. Find your jealousies, admit them, and name them. It could be of an actual sister or brother OR it could be of a “type” of jewish brother or sister that you find….. The antidote is to celebrate your unique gifts, and the mystery of being part of a whole.
And for those that are so absorbed in their own spiritual alignment that you actually feel innocent of any problem, to the Josephs amongst us— watch your thoughts and speech and actions -- condemn and harshly judge another tribal member, and earn us all a longer exile. The antidote is to know deeply that each member of the jewish nation comes from the same holy source as you.
This coming week, as we begin to light the Chanukah lights, try bringing that light to the places within your heart, body and mind that are stuck in ancient darkness, and try your best to shine the light there.
Shabbat Shalom… and Happy Chanukah!
