The Life of Sara
THE BIG IDEA
According to the Torah Omens, love is in the air.
The love of a spouse to their beloved, the love of a people for a hero, the love of a slave for a master, a disciple for a master (or a devoted employee), the love for a delivering god, the love of a child for a dead parent, the love of a second marriage and new life, brotherly love, and love at first sight.
Use this powerful cosmic essence found in the meditation of The Life of Sarah, to bolster and heal any lingering grievances with a parent, sibling, partner, boss, worker, teacher, student or friend without the need for extreme circumstances like marriage or death to cultivate your greater understanding.
Take time to clarify the terms of your relationships, ask the cosmos for clear signs to guide your way. Accept them when they appear. Give thanks. (perhaps had Sara better clarified Hagar’s role as a surrogate before handing her Abraham we all might be clearer now).
Most of all share this love with the people who represent this cosmic grace in your world. Tell them you love them, offer a gesture of compassion or forgiveness or whatever is needed. The Life of Sara reminds us how short life can really be.
SOMATIC MEDITATION
If last week was a meditation on the many forms of laughter, (the forms that are sweet and the forms that are not so sweet) this week invites us to exercise our understanding on love and see the way we experience it in our lives.
Which state of love is most present in your life?
Which state of love do you wish for most?
Which state of love do you fear?
Which state of love do you consciously avoid or block?
Take some time to find your breath, and close your eyes and breath into each of these states. For a deeper meditation run through the following list and see what state of love it triggers.
Love for your mother
Love for your father
Love for your sister
Love for your brother
Love for your boss
Love for your workers
Love for a teacher
Love for a student
Love for a parent
Love for a child
Love for a friend
Love from a friend
Love for a man
Love for a woman
Love for a God
Love for creation
Love for life
Love for your life
Love for our planet.
Use the energy generated through this exercise to cultivate love for a parent while they are still alive, to repair distance between a sibling or friend, to appreciate your circumstance, and to infuse romantic relationships with a fresh wind.
Practice NEGOTIATION
Pull in the sweetness of the love energy into your being and infuse it into all of your relationships.
Begin by scanning your relationships and sensing for any aspect that seem unclear.
Perhaps you aren’t sure what is fully expected in a certain situation or relationship. Take time to write out all the implicit expectations that you hold within each relationship and notice if there is any confusion between what you feel is expected and what you feel able and willing to deliver.
Use this practice to clarify terms with a boss, friend, spouse, parent, God, or partner. Ask for signs when you are afraid of what comes next, and remain open to be answered and supported through it all.
