Spiritual Sickness

THE BIG IDEA

According to this week’s torah energy, this is a favorable time to activate your spiritual counter intuitive abilities. Imagine, if you can, a reality where the need for personal spiritual adjustment appeared as clearly as a spot on your skin or a growth on the walls of your home. Imagine a priest- and not a doctor -assessing your condition. And while the process of healing was probably as shameful as it sounds ( a priest shouting IMPURE IMPURE and taking you out of the encampment for 7 - 14 days - or knocking down the wall of your home…) But the fact of spiritual disease was actually a sign of overall spiritual health in the tribal people-  a clear sign that the divine was directly involved in individual personal growth work of a people. 

This spiritual sickness is generally understood to illuminate a person’s bad speech habits; slander, mockery, haughtiness, lying….general brotherly hatred. Things we are all guilty of in some way, especially during this difficult, long and taxing war. 

And so this week - let’s do our best to see the interruption of Israel’s National mourning and subsequent Independence Day celebration with the worst fire in the country’s history - as a counter-intuitively good sign that God is actually with us. That the fiery finger of the God on us, urging us to awaken us in the gentlest possible way. This week, let’s all really watch what we say about each other as if the health and future of our people depends on it.
