Say…
THE BIG IDEA
This week carries within it the paradox of perfection. It seems that the Creator of the Universe rejects priests with visible defects from performing temple service, and animals with defects from being used as offerings. Of course the disqualification isn’t always innate, accidents and certain life choices can also disbar a priest or animal from public service – however— no matter what one’s choices or happenstance one is never rejected from their internal service.
In the absence of a temple we are all in this damaged category – all of our temple service has shifted from public offering to the quiet internal work of knowing, accepting, refining and worshipping the divine without the possiblity of any spectacle. Like the one eye’d Kohen or bull, we aren’t rejected from existence - just from the perfection required to serve directly.
As we move further away from the freedom of Passover and closer to the Torah light we receive on Shavuot, take these next two weeks to bring consciousness and compassion to all the flaws (either God given or life generated) that you feel prevent you from feeling the power of your service - exactly as you are. Embrace the process of perfecting.
