Balak

THE BIG IDEA

Let me see how clearly I can say this – unless the Oneness wills it, no harm will come to Israel, the jewish people, or any people for that matter. The entire world could take to the streets and try to curse Israel all they want — in the end it would only turn into a blessing – just like in this week’s story of Balak and Bilam - the king that wanted to defeat Israel, hired someone with spiritual skillz, and completely failed to achieve their goal.

Allow this week’s torah energy to seep in as deeply as possible. Feel safe in knowing that it is spiritually impossible to curse what is blessed. What is blessed by the Oneness cannot be cursed by any human person.

Of course that is only half of this week’s story… turns out that being “blessed” is conditional on keeping it holy - back in the Israelite encampment the “blessed” brought harsh punishment on themselves by giving in to sexual temptation and idolatry.

Today instead of worshipping idols  - we worship political ideologies, believing in one leader or the other as if they are Gods. Instead of practicing public sexual immorality we express extreme brotherly hatred. But they are all the same impulses - just different expressions of our inability to internalize spiritual law as the true source of safety and protection.

So this week, everyone take out your spears - help stop the plague within the blessing. Let the Divine worry about the outside haters - and just focus on being awake to the mission of higher consciousness. Worry about how you speak about “the other side.” Worry about the hate that has infected our society and hearts. Worry about your connection to the ONE. and you might also want to allow yourself to accept, hard as it is to believe, that there are rules to follow to ensure spiritual protection.
