Lived

THE BIG IDEA

The last chapters of B’reishet (The Book of Origins) focuses our attention on the thing in our ancestral heritage that can’t be undone, the fact that 10 brothers hated their brother so much that they actually threw him a pit, sold him into slavery, and left him for dead. Some things - no matter how much you live to regret them, cannot be undone.

Even though Joseph turned out to be alive and thriving. Even though he forgave them completely, even though they can see God’s divine will and the good came out of it – the reality is some stains can’t be removed entirely– and so when you find yourself “hating” another jew for being ‘too this’ or ‘too that’ … know that it is only through intergenerational adjustments that the spiritual debt of the ancients will be paid off.  And only then will we really begin to live Jacob’s true legacy.
