Get Out
THE BIG IDEA
This week is a favorable time to channel great great great… grandpa Jacob and ‘get out’ of the comfort of your personal perspective. Do your best to see the movement of your life from as large a lens as you possibly can– go beyond the (very real) daily personal dramas and annoyances, and try to connect to your soul’s highest purpose…. because if you are a descendant of the twelve tribes of Israel, you were born into a stew of family drama so powerful it's impossible to escape some aspect of it playing out in your life.
From the moment he took that blessing, Jacob’s personal life was mired in drama, and the names of his children reflect the jealousies, longings, upset and struggles that existed within his complicated marriages to Rachel and her sister Leah.
The Torah (a transmission of truth), makes it abundantly clear that sisters forced by their trickster father (and divine will) to share a husband and a household did not live happily ever after – nor did Jacob’s deceptive father-in law suddenly treat him fairly when he was ready to leave. And while there are deep mystical truths, and lessons clothed in the biblical narrative – there is also an essential messages to take into the pains and pressures of life….
Blessed as you are, like Jacob, expect reality, expect challenges, expect it all. But also know deep down- that even when something feels bad, good might be happening. The future of the jewish people came through two sisters that felt trapped, abandoned, rejected and forgotten at different points in their relationship — but because they endured, we exist.
Basically —- this week is as good a time as ever to embrace the mystery in the dark.
